Hi!

I´ve never been good at playing Sonic. But this game is damn awesome! Although the cartoon and anime adaptions are a little disappointing, the new games are as good and fun as the old ones.

Now a curious story. Years ago, when I was opening my genetics book for the first time, I got surprised when I saw an article about mutations in a gene called "Sonic Hedgehog". My first thought was "WTF!". I was expecting strange names for genes, proteins, whatever... but naming a gene after a videogame character was bizarre! Then I did a little research and found this [link] . According to what I´ve got, two genes discovered in the 70s had names of species of hedgehogs. In the 90s, they discovered another gene of this group and named it after Sega´s main character, which was already a big hit that time. Yes, my friends, scientists have sense of humour!

Wikipedia says that there´s an inibitor for this gene. It was called "Robotnikinin". I wonder how long they´ll take this joke.

Nunca fui bom em jogar Sonic. Mas o jogo é fenomenal! Apesar das adaptações para animação serem meio fracas, os jogos novos são tão bons e divertidos quanto os antigos.

Agora uma história interessante. Anos atrás, quando abri meu livro de genética pela primeira vez, me deparei com um capítulo sobre mutações em um gene chamado "Sonic Hedgehog". A primeira coisa que pensei foi "Que diabo é isso??". Eu esperava todo tipo de nome esquisito pra genes, mas nome de personagem de videogame era algo meio bizarro! Então pesquisei na internet e achei este [link] . Pelo que entendi, foram descobertos, nos anos 70, dois genes que foram batizados com nomes de ouriços. Nos anos 90, outro gene deste grupo foi achado. Ele foi batizado com o nome do ouriço mais famoso daquela época: o Sonic! Pois é, cientistas também tem senso de humor!

A wikipedia diz que há um inibidor deste gene que foi batizado de "Robotinikinin". Até onde será que eles vão levar essa piada?...
